Uniting The IndustryMonday, 22 Nov, 2004
United Wheatgrowers (NZ) Ltd recently held its AGM in Christchurch in conjunction with the FFNZ Grains conference, "Uniting the Industry". Like much of the country's scientific and agricultural industry, United Wheatgrowers has been shocked by the recent air accident that claimed the lives of seven Crop & Food staff. United Wheatgrowers has had a long-standing relationship with Crop & Food and dealt with many of those who died. Our sympathies go out to their family and friends.
One of the more hotly debated topics at the conference was a discussion document relating to the phasing out of the electoral committee and vesting of United Wheatgrowers' political role with Federated Farmers Grains Section. The electoral committee made it clear that they valued the current structure and the activities that United Wheatgrowers undertook and there should be no change. The directors of United Wheatgrowers were pleased to get such clear feedback.
The Wheat Insurance Levy for the next levy season beginning 1 January 2004 was set at the same level as last year, $2.95 + GST per tonne. Setting this is a role of the electoral committee, the directors making a recommendation of a suitable levy to cover the insurance contract cost. << Back
