Concern over use of non-certified seedWednesday, 27 Apr, 2005
Representing the Grains Council, UWG Director Syd Worsfold met with the New Zealand Flour Millers Association (NZFMA) to discuss the use of non-certified wheat seed. In a March discussion paper, the NZFMA proposed that, for sake of wheat milling quality, growers should only use seed that has been certified by MAF under the NZ Seed Certification Scheme. The Grains Council does not believe that this is necessary on the basis that certification of seed does not provide any guarantee of the quality or performance of that seed; field or milling. The scheme only aims to provide high varietal purity.
